4-point Chin Strap Retention System

Details

The 4-point chin strap retention system is a classic and mainstream fixation solution for modern ballistic tactical helmets. Four straps are respectively fixed to four installation points within the helmet shell (four screw holes on the left, right, front, and back of the helmet shell), converging downward to the chin strap, forming a quadrilateral constraint to prevent the helmet from flying off or moving significantly.

▲ High stability: The four-point force-bearing structure has a much smaller displacement range than the two-point fixation scheme during intense tactical actions such as running, jumping, and rapid turning.

▲ High cost-effectiveness: The structure is mature and has low production difficulty, making it a cost-effective choice that balances protection performance and cost.

▲ Comfortable to wear: Combined with the head suspension structure, it avoids the helmet directly pressing against the scalp, leaving buffer space while improving air circulation.

It is divided into H-Nape (H-type) and X-Nape (X posterior cross type).

1. H-Nape 4-point (H-type chin strap)

The straps are in an H shape at the back of the head and do not cross; this is the original factory standard of MICH.

Advantages: Simple structure, low cost; suitable for single-barrel night vision device PVS-14.
Disadvantages: When mounting a heavy dual-barrel night vision device GPNVG-18, the helmet is prone to tilt forward and slide down.

2. X-Nape 4-point (X posterior cross chin strap)

The two rear straps cross at the occipital bone position and then connect to the chin strap.

Advantages: Stronger posterior head locking, inhibiting head tilt and rotation; preferred for parachute, high mobility, and heavy night vision devices.
Disadvantages: Installation is slightly complex and requires a certain amount of space inside the helmet.
